Corpus Christi Community Religious School

Instead of writing about activities here at CBI for the last few Sunday mornings, I’d like to share some of my thoughts from the last six years.

When I began, I remember being amazed at the changes since my own days of religious school and even those experiences of our own children.  I don’t remember it being “fun” nor do our children.  I believe these positive changes over the years are due in part to our changing times.  We want our young people to understand every part of being Jewish and sometimes that happens better through a game or a song.  We have a wonderful curriculum from the Institute of Southern Jewish Life.  We’ve had wonderful teachers of all ages that our children can look up to and respect. They have helped us accomplish this.

I have looked forward to seeing all the happy faces of your children each Sunday morning.  I will miss them.

The Boards of Directors of CBI and Sisterhood during these years have been very supportive and granted all my wishes.  I also want to thank Rabbi Roseman and Debbie for their support.  I send a special thank you to Julia Noble.  Her official title is Chairman of the Education Committee for the Religious School, but she wears many hats.  Most of all, she has been my sounding board and is a dear friend.

As most of you know, Jana Zager is the new director of our religious school.  Jana was involved in administration of the Hebrew school when she and her family lived in Corpus Christi several years ago.  We are thrilled to have Jana lead our school and we welcome the Zagers back to CBI.

Family Corner

Shalom Y'All,

Our second annual Mother's Day Brunch was fabulous … we doubled the attendance this year!  I loved sharing this special day with everyone and celebrating being a mom.  Thank you to the loves of my life, Eli and Nolan, who did a great job handing out beautiful roses to all our moms that day.

A big shout out to Linda Bustillo for helping me “plate” all the food and being my taste tester!  Linda, not only are you an absolute joy to be around and work with, but I want to say thank you for all your help at every Family Shabbat Dinner this year and tell you how much I appreciate you!  Another shout out to Robert and Andy for washing ALL the dishes before we all left for the day as well as to all the guests who helped clean up, making my job so much easier.

Remember to keep an eye on our CBI Newsletter for the date our Family Shabbat Dinners will resume.  If you are interested in helping me in the kitchen, please call or email me.  I could always use the extra help!

It has been an honor and a pleasure cooking for all of you this year, and until we break bread together again, I want to wish everyone a summer filled with new memories, good health, fun, and relaxation!

Annual CBI Congregational Meeting

Sunday, June 23rd
4pm - 6pm

The annual meeting of CBI will be held on Sunday,
June 23, 2013 at 4:00 P.M. in the main sanctuary of CBI.  At that time, the Board and Committees will report on the year’s activities to the membership, elections of new officers and Board members will be held and a budget for the coming fiscal year will be presented for adoption.

We hope every member will strive to attend this meeting and support the continued health and achievements of the congregation.

Childcare will be provided

Beginning with the June/July 2013 CBI Newsletter, we shall distribute it to members via e-mail.  The Post Office has become increasingly unreliable about getting the Newsletter to addressees in a timely manner – the May issue languished in their offices for over a week – and there is some possibility that they will relocate the processing center to San Antonio, incurring further delays.

If your e-mail address has changed recently, please call the CBI Office and give  us the up-to-date information.  This change will also reduce the expenses to the congregation by saving on paper, printing and staff time for folding, addressing and mailing the Newsletter.

If you do not receive e-mail, we shall send you a hard copy of the Newsletter by regular, first-class mail.  Additional copies of the printed Newsletter will be available for personal pick-up in the Office.

We realize that this change may take some “getting-used-to,” but the Board of the congregation concluded that it was an inevitable and necessary step into our technological century.  We thank you for your understanding and help.
