Corpus Christi Community Religious School

Welcome Back! I hope you’ve had a restful summer and are refreshed and geared up for the upcoming school year.  On August 10th, we had our first visit with our new ISJL Fellow, Alachua Haskins who was accompanied by the McAllen and Brownsville Fellowes.  We had a very productive teacher training session where we discussed many new ideas for this year.  Alachua will be back in November to meet our congregation and to continue to provide her inspiration to the Religious School, so please plan to meet her when she is in town. If you are interested in hosting Alachua in your home, let me know.

Also, please remember that registration and the first day of Religious School classes are on September 7th at 9:15. Classes will be finished at 12:30.  After the first day of Religious School/Registration, those entering 3rd grade through 6th grade are eligible for Hebrew School from 9:15-10:15.  Pre-K through 2nd grade will join Religious School from 10:30 – 12:30. Confirmation class, entering 9th and 10th graders, will be held from 10:30-12:30. I welcome our returning students as well as the new additions to our school.

I look forward to seeing all of you and your children back in the Temple hallways!

Family Corner

Shalom Y'all,

As we prepare for a new year, I would like to wish all of you L'Shana Tova 5775 … May it be Happy, Healthy & Prosperous!!!

Mark your calendars for our first Family Shabbat Dinner on Friday, September 12th!  Services begin at 6:00 pm with dinner to follow.  I believe Rabbi Emanuel will have some surprises in store for us during Shabbat services too!  Please continue to attend and support our monthly dinners.  If you know any newcomers to our congregation, please invite them to share in the food and friendship, as well as well bringing in Shabbat together!

Sometimes, coming up with “new” meal ideas is a challenge, so don't be shy and give me a holler if you'd like to share a favorite recipe.  If you find yourself with some free time on your hands, why not join me in the kitchen?

Chag Sameach to All,

Leslie Green

CBI Sisterhood

Sisterhood is hard at work planning for the coming year.  Laura Hausman is beginning to organize our Rosh HaShanah Yom Tov Oneg, which will be on September 24th following services.  Carol Solovey and Jaki Hausman will coordinate our Yom Kippur Break-fast to be held Saturday evening, October 4th.

Chris Kuehn, Rikki Schmitchel, and Jana Zager, are already working with committee chairs to make Food Fest 2014 another huge success.  This year’s celebration will be held Saturday, November 15th, and Sunday, November 16th.  A Food Handler’s Class will be held at CBI on Sunday, October 26th, at 10:00,  Remember to bring $10 (cash only).  Mark these dates on your calendar.

Membership/Dues letters are being sent out this week.  If you do not receive one in the next few weeks, please call Natalie at 765-6655.

We look forward to a year of fun and fellowship.  If you know of Jewish women in our community who would like to join our Sisterhood and participate in any of our activities, please extend the invitation and let us know so that we can reach out to them as well.

On behalf of your Congregation Beth Israel Sisterhood, we would like to wish you and your family L’Shana Tovah.  May the year ahead be a blessed year for you and your loved ones.

Brittany, Chris, & Susan

Kitchen work is continuing through September 18th. The main CBI kitchen will be undergoing an equipment update. There will not be access to the ovens, gas or convection, or the stove top during this time.

Thank you for your understanding.
The Ladies of Sisterhood

This month, our youth group and middle school contingent spent some time getting to know Rabbi Emanuel at Funtrackers!

We reconvened at Temple to discuss ideas and plan events for the coming year. Our youth group is back and better than ever, and we're looking forward to a great year of service, learning, and good old-fashioned fun.
