RELIGIOUS SCHOOL

November was a short month for Religious School but we were able to pack in a lot!  We had a great visit with our ISJL Fellow, Alachua Haskins during Food Fest weekend.  Apart from delivering a great D’var Torah at Shabbat services on Friday night, she joined the classrooms on Sunday to give a short briefing on how to use the Behrman House Online Learning Center that the Hebrew students now have the capabilities of accessing from home in order to practice their Hebrew studies.  Also, to learn about Israeli culture and food, she created a fun, hands-on project where the students made “chocolate falafel” in conjunction with the Food Fest going on outside the classrooms doors.  Alachua will be here again in the spring to continue her work with us, so please watch out for information on her visit.

If you would like to know more about Camp Young Judea, please join us in the main sanctuary on December 7th at 11:00 as a representative from CYJ will be here with a short presentation.
On December 12th, we will have a student-led Shabbat service during our regularly scheduled Family Shabbat.  Please make every effort to attend so your child has the opportunity to practice what he/she has learned.

Please join CBI at the JCC on December 17th for a community Hanukkah party.  Our fourth and fifth grade Religious School students will put on a skit and there will also be fun activities and food to enjoy!

Mark your calendars…there will be NO RELIGIOUS SCHOOL on December 21st or 28th.  Classes will resume January 4th, 2015.

Wishing you and your family a HAPPY HANUKKAH!

FAMILY CORNER

Shalom CBI Congregants,

Now that Food Fest and the Thanksgiving holiday is behind us, it's time to gear up for our Family Shabbat Dinner Chanukah celebration, which will take place on Friday, December 12th.  We will enjoy a full dinner with potato latkes and all the fixins!

Soooo … Bring your appetites and a yummy dessert to share.  PLEASE BRING YOUR FAVORITE MENORAH with candles to put at your table.  We will light up the night together as a CBI family!!!

Looking forward to seeing ALL of you and breaking bread (and latkes) together again!

Leslie Green
Family Shabbat Dinner Coordinator

CBI SISTERHOOD

FoodFest 2014 has come and gone, and while we are still crunching numbers to assess exactly what our profit margin is for this year, we can safely say that it was a HUGE success.   The old saying “It takes a whole village” is never truer than when it comes to FoodFest, and once again, the dedication, hard work and creativity of everyone in our congregation should bring great pride to us all.  Although we may be small in numbers, we are truly mighty in spirit.

Of course the main purpose for putting on FoodFest for these many years is to make money, and every year we have been very fortunate in that regard. However, perhaps the far greater benefit is the way this amazing event brings us all together to interact as one strong force to make it happen, and also allows our small synagogue to interact in such a positive way with the greater community.

We are always reluctant to single out individuals to thank because so many people do so much that there is always the danger of leaving someone out.  Still, we must take the chance because without the amazing dedication and over-the-top hard work of some, FoodFest simply would NOT have happened.   SPECIAL THANKS must go to Andy and Tobi Taubman, Julia Noble, Chip and Barb Schwamb, Susan and Bill Martin, Robin and Bill Adams, Ann Engel, Rikki Schmitchel and family, Chris and Robert Adler, Amy Krams, Laura Hausman, David Jacobs, Mike Hiatt, Phyllis Roseman,  Catherine Susser, Carol Solovey, and Jaki Hausman.

As we wrap up another year, we are so proud to have had the opportunity to work with every one of you.  Thank you for your time, your energy, your ideas, and most of all for helping to make us all look good!

Sincerely,
Jana Zager, Rikki Schmitchel, and Chris Kuehn (FoodFest Chairs)
Chris Adler, Brittany Sandbach and Susan Martin (Sisterhood Presidents)
