CBI RELIGIOUS SCHOOL

December was a very short month for Religious School. I hope you all are enjoying your winter break and have a wonder New Year!

We are very excited to announce that our ISJL fellow, Bethany Berger will be joining us the weekend of January 8th. She will be participating in services on Friday night and will be working with the kids during religious school on Sunday, January 10th. As found on their website, the Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life (ISJL) promotes Judaism and our heritage through innovative programs and shared resources. The ISJL delivers rabbinic services, an education program, and cultural events to communities seeking new solutions, or where Jewish resources are limited. The ISJL also provides historic preservation and community engagement throughout the South. We are assigned an ISJL representative every year to lend us support and ideas to enhance our children’s Jewish education. Please introduce yourself to Bethany and welcome her to our congregation.

FAMILY SHABBAT DINNER

Happy New Year CBI Family!

Our Chanukah Family Shabbat Dinner was so much fun and well-attended!  A highlight of the evening was going to the outside courtyard to light the giant menorah!  It was wonderful spending the holiday with old and new members alike!  I want to give a very special thanks to Mara Schechter Butler for helping me make almost 400 potato latkes!!  It was a labor of love and we had a fun time in the kitchen together.

Mark your calendars for our next Family Shabbat Dinner on Friday, January 8th at 6pm with dinner to follow.    Take a break from cooking and let's bring in Shabbat together.  Remember to bring a yummy dessert to share and we'll do the rest!  I could always use some help in the kitchen, so let me know if you're available.

Until we break bread together again, may you and your families be blessed with a Happy, Healthy, Joyous and Prosperous New Year ...

CBI Sisterhood

Happy 2016 Greetings from your CBI Sisterhood!!

For those of you who missed our fabulous Hannukah Party at the home of Bill and Robin Adams, you missed a wonderful evening of great food and lots of laughter!!  Our White Elephant Gift exchange was a hoot!!!  I've shared a few photos from the party.

Our first Sisterhood Meeting for 2016 will be Wednesday, January 6th at CBI.  Everyone is welcome to join in our planning for the upcoming year.  If you can't be there, please be sure to share any ideas you might like us to know about by either calling, texting or emailing me.  I'd love to hear from you!

SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE

Please email me if you would like to be part of the social action committee for CBI. We will be determining future ways to be involved in social service needs for our city and state, and need help with implementation. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it   The first meeting date will be announced.

The intention here is to collect information about many needs in the community and to provide advance information to our congregation about ways they may want to volunteer. So I encourage you to let me know if there are annual events we could do as a group or individual interests that need volunteers. If you are too busy for a meeting then send me your ideas.

~Direct volunteering and ideas all lead to us making a difference.

Joint Torah Study with All Saints Episcopal Church - The Genesis of Faith
Join us as we learn about our shared scriptural tradition together with members of All Saints Episcopal Church.  We will be studying the stories in the first 3 chapters of Genesis (Creation and Adam and Eve) from the perspectives of our different interpretive traditions, learning how we see these shared text differently and what we can learn from each others' different perspectives.
