Religious School

I would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Greg Marks for putting together the Student led Shabbat that occurred on May 13th. It was such a joy to see the kids up on the Bimah leading the services. I think the kids enjoyed the process and I know that we had a record attendance for the event. Greg has put in a tremendous amount of extra time this year to help enrich our kid’s Jewish experience. He took two trips up to Greene Family Camp as a chaperone for the middle school kids. He did this as a volunteer and without his commitment and willingness to drive, many (if not all) of the kids would not have been able to attend. The student led Shabbat was also fully produced by Greg. He is very motivated to create a fun, engaging learning environment for our children and I just want to take this opportunity to thank him publicly for his initiative, drive, enthusiasm and creativity.

We are on hiatus from Religious School until September. Once our calendar has been established for the next school year, we will publish the registration and start-up dates for Religious School. I would like to thank all of the parents and teachers for their commitment to the Jewish education of our children. I am honored to be a part of this education process and am looking forward to the new adventures we will have next year.

We are starting to look for a couple of key people to help with Religious School next year. We are in need of some more Sunday School teachers. Please contact Meredith Ryan at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Enjoy your summer!

Family Shabbat Dinner

Shalom Y'All,

We had a fabulous end-of-year Family Shabbat Dinner last month beginning with services being led by our children (who did an amazing job) and then celebrating Yom Ha-Atzmaut (Israeli Independence Day) enjoying Israeli music, delicious Israeli food, with a record turnout by our congregants and families.

I have enjoyed planning and preparing meals for our congregation as well as celebrating the Jewish holidays together.  These dinners would not be possible without the assistance of Eva Brown, Linda and Suzy!!  Thank you ladies for your help and expertise in and out of the kitchen to make these Family Shabbat Dinners delicious and successful!

Until we break bread together again, wishing all of you a safe, relaxing, and fun-filled summer!

Leslie Green
Family Shabbat Dinner Coordinator

CBI Sisterhood

Greetings!! Sisterhood had a general meeting at CBI on Monday, May 16 at 6:00 p.m., to nominate and elect officers.  I want to thank all who were able to attend.  Jim Gold reported he would begin planning for Food Fest in July!  Jaki Hausman reported that Sisterhood had 79 paid members for the 2015-16 year.  We will now look forward to growing our fabulous Sisterhood in the coming year!

At the meeting we also discussed a possible additional fundraiser to take place in February 2017.  We are considering having a Frozen Food Sale coupled with a Bingo Night at CBI (Hosted by the Men’s Group).  If you are interested in participating in either of these fun events, please contact me.

Two Jews, Three Opinions! The World of the Talmud
Jews are well known for arguing and questioning! It is part of who we are as a people and it has strong roots in our religious tradition, especially in the Talmud.  This essential Jewish text is the basis of much of what we do and believe in Jewish tradition, and is primarily a collection of rabbinic arguments!   Join us as we explore the world of the Talmudic rabbis, how they thought and how they created Judaism as we know it.
