What's Going On - March 2018 PDF Print E-mail

Dear parents,
Thank you to all our wonderful parents who brought a dish for our Tu B’Shevat Seder. It was a wonderful Seder with lots of (Healthy) food. Thank you for making the Seder possible.
February was a fun and busy month. We had our Tu B’Shevat seder. We celebrated Nolan Green’s Bar Mitzvah. Our ISJL Fellow came and visit us. We practiced our Purim Performance.

Each student has his/her own script and know who he/she is. Please practice at home with your child so they know their lines.
Our Purim performance is Sunday, March 4th at 12.00 PM. I hope you all can join us!

Don’t forget to sign up your child for Green Family

On three successive Sunday mornings, Rabbi Roseman will ask us to consider whether major turning points in the Jewish past were REFORMATIONS  or REVOLUTIONS.

These sessions will begin in the Grossman Auditorium at 10:00 A.M. with a light nosh.  The talk will follow at 10:30 and end around noon. There is no cost, and both members of CBI and guests are sincerely welcome to attend.

March 11
Was the change in Judaism after the Babylonians destroyed the Temple and took 90% of the Jewish population into captivity really a revolution?

March 18
When Yochanan ben Zakkai climbed out of his casket was Judaism reborn?
March 25
Three Italian medical students start a profound Jewish revolution.

***2018 has started off with a bang for CBI with two recent events***

On January 28, the Salvation Army Canteen Truck Dinner provided 125 homeless men and women with a hearty black-bean stew, roll, dessert and a pair of socks. This effort was divided into two parts: the meal preparation by Carla, Eva, Sue, Dean and Linda; and the serving by Andrea and Art, Nelda, Sue, Dean and Linda. Several of this group also provided cookies along with Robin’s delicious cupcakes.

The second event is the sock drive that we just completed on February 7th. For the second year we challenged Windsor Park Elementary. Their goal was 1,000 and in two weeks they collected 1,448 pairs of men’s, women’s, and children’s socks!! CBI’s sock drive lasted a little longer and we collected 668 socks. If you include the 250 socks we gave out to Port Aransas after the hurricane, the accumulation for CBI would add up to 918 pairs of socks…. and our congregation also donated a lot of miscellaneous items such as coats, jackets, hats, backpacks, and underwear. All of the shelters in Nueces County will benefit from this friendly competition. Now that all of the socks have been sorted and counted the best part is that we are having some of our religious school students do the delivery.  Letting our youth be directly involved in helping others less fortunate in our community is a hands-on form of Mitzvah.

As always our committee encourages any suggestions for community needs that we can get involved with, and of course names can be added to the committee at any time. Stay tuned we’re just getting started.
