What's Going On - May 2019 PDF Print E-mail

Dear parents,

May is going to be our last month of Religious school. I can’t believe it is already over.

This year we accomplished a lot of things. We had a Tu B’Shevat Seder, we had our Religious school Shabbat, we’ve learned about the holidays, Jewish traditions, we’ve built friendships and much more.  We were able to “hire” assistant teachers. These eager young teachers supported our teachers and even did a small service at the beginning of religious school every week.  They have been a great help and so much inspiration to our students and teachers.

May 5th is going to be our final day for Hebrew and Religious school. Our ISJL Fellow Carrie Bohn is going to visit our school that weekend and she is preparing different activities for our students about Yom HaShoah and we are going to finish class with a school wide quiz about what we’ve learned this year.

As always, we will have our end of the year “pizza pool party” at the JCC. It is going to be on Sunday, May 19 from 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm. I hope you all can join us for pizza and fun. Please bring a dish to share.

On June 8th, 2019 at 10 AM, Noah Shai Sela will participate in the Shabbat Service and be called to the Torah as a Bat Mitzvah. I hope you all can join the Sela family and celebrate this very special moment. There is a Kiddush luncheon after the Service.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my amazing teachers and assistant teachers for being there every Sunday and teaching the students more about Jewish life.  I hope to see you all back in the fall and I promise you that we are going to have a lot of fun things on our calendar for next year.

Our first day of school and registration is going to be on Sunday, September 8th, 2019. Registration will start at 9.30 am followed by different family activities and a picnic at 11.30 am. So, make sure you mark your calendars!

I wish you all a safe and good summer and I hope to see you all back in the Fall.

With warm regards,
Manuela Sela, Religious School Director.

Dear sisterhood members,
After heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, it started to clear up and we had an amazing progressive dinner. A big thank you to Carol Rethmeyer, Chris & Robert Adler and Laurie and Michael Mintz for their hospitality.  Also, a big thank you to all the volunteers. We could not have done it without your help!
This is going to be my final bulletin article as a sisterhood president and while I am typing this it feels a little bit bitter sweet.
On one side I am really looking forward in being a mom of three and take some time off to spend that time with my girls. While on the other side I really enjoyed being part of such a great group of sisters.  The past two years I’ve learned so much about being part of a sisterhood and being part of a community.  The warm feeling you all gave me, from helping me out when I needed help to the great conversations and discussions we’ve had.
I was able to go to the Biennial in Boston in 2017, where I celebrated Shabbat with a huge amount of people, and we all had the same thing in common. Built friendships with Jews all over the states. And learned more about community nationwide. I Was in charge of sisterhood events such as Mama Mia and the Purim Party and we did much more.

I developed myself as a leader and learned more about myself and handling (sometimes) difficult situations, conversations, helping people in need or just be there to listen to their story.

Being the president of the CBI Sisterhood always felt to me as an honor and I will always honor this position and tell other people with lots of pride what I did and what my position was. Although, I am not going to be the president anymore, that doesn’t mean I am not going to be part of the sisterhood anymore. For me it feels like this is only the beginning.
Carol Rehtmeyer is going to be the new president and I know that she is going to do a wonderful job!
On this final note as the sisterhood president I wanted to thank each of you for your great support, the trust and faith you gave me and the love and friendship. It has been a true honor to serve all of you.
I am not going to say farewell but see you all soon.

With warm regards,
Manuela  Sela,  Sisterhood President.
