What's Going On - June & July 2019 PDF Print E-mail

Just six short years ago, I relocated to our fine city and became a member of Congregation Beth Israel.  I recall how thrilled I was to learn that a city named Corpus Christi even had a temple! The CBI Sisterhood provided me with a meaningful sense of community as I navigated the transition from Chicago to Corpus Christi.  Today, I am inspired by this amazing group of “sisters” who serve our congregation and many others, and I am inspired to help continue the legacy to engage our sisters in our community.  As such, I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead the CBI Sisterhood as its new President.  I look forward to furthering its mission and enhancing the sense of inclusion and meaning for all to participate, enjoy and find a sense of fulfillment particularly unique to that of the CBI Sisterhood.

The 2019 Slate of officers for the Sisterhood are as follows:
President:  Carol Rehtmeyer
Vice President: Rikki Schmitchel
Past President:  Manuela Sela
Mitzvah Committee:  Sarah Loeb
Food Fest Co-Presidents:  Chris Adler & Phyllis Roseman
Treasurer:  Jackie Abels
Financial Secretary:  Venita Crow
Recording Secretary:  Sue Williams
Service to the Blind:  Suzy Hilliard
Rosh Hashanah:  Sarah Loeb & Andrea Bussey

We need you!  We currently seek individuals from our congregation to serve in each of the following chair or co-chair capacities for Yom Kippur and Passover dinners at the temple.  As a leader, you’ll be provided with a budget and use of the kitchen as well as a sense of pride and accolades from all!  This is an excellent opportunity to get a team together and enjoy the comradery of sisterhood as we serve our very own congregation.

Kick-off party:  A kick-off dinner event will take place late August.  The event will be held in a private home this year.  More information will follow!

SHAVUOT: June 9th
The World to Come: What Judaism Says About What happens After we Die and What that Means for How we Live.

Like most religious traditions Judaism is full of ideas about what happens after we die.  Is there a Heaven? Is there a Hell? Who gets to go to the World to Come and what's it like when we get there? And what does it all mean for how we live our lives in the meantime?

Join us on June 9 for a Shavuot morning service (including Yizkor) at 9am followed by a discussion about  Judaism and the afterlife at 10am.
