What's Going On - August 2015 Print

Religious School

I am very excited to be taking on the role of the Religious School Director at CBI. I wanted to let everyone know that Hebrew & Sunday school will be starting on September 20th. Registration will start at 9:00am.

I am very excited about this year! We have some returning staff and we have some new additions to our teaching staff. My philosophy is simple: I want all of our children to have fun while they learn about Judaism and prepare for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. I am researching and preparing different events for our children to participate in outside of religious school to help enhance their Jewish education and personal development. I am hopeful that all of the children will find their religious educational experience as a fun and fulfilling journey. Look for letters in the mail that will be announcing our kick off event as well as a reminder for Hebrew and Sunday School start dates. I hope you have all enjoyed your summer vacation and I look forward to working with all of you.

Shabbat Dinner

Shalom Everyone,

I hope you have all been enjoying your summer with friends and family, relaxing, vacationing, and even getting some home projects done.  Say it isn't so that we have just about a month to go before a new school year starts?  The boys and I are never ready for the lazy days of summer to end!

Time to think about our monthly Family Shabbat Dinners.  Please make a note that our first dinner will be on August 28th.  Services will begin at 6:00 pm and dinner will follow.  Make sure to read your CBI Newsletter for the upcoming monthly dinner dates, holiday schedules,  as well as all the activities planned for the coming year.

Although I've been cooking for you for 4 years now, it sure gets lonely in the kitchen and I would appreciate some extra hands this season!  If you can give up some of your time once a month to help cook and/or serve the meal, let me know.  Going “behind the scenes” is a great way to make new friends, stay connected and get involved in our CBI family!

I'm always open for new recipe ideas.  Have a favorite main dish, salad or side that you love?  Just let me know and I'd be happy to make it!  For those of you that are new to CBI, we will continue to provide “kosher style” meals, keeping dairy and meat separate.

Have a fabulous rest of the summer and before you know it, we will be breaking bread together once again!

Food Fest 2015

Saturday, November 14 & Sunday, November 15

Mark your calendars saving November 14 and November 15 for Food Fest 2015. The planning has begun and we look forward to you helping us make this Food Fest the best ever.

We will soon be contacting CBI members to form teams and look forward to you volunteering for this premier CBI event. By participating you will meet new people, build friendships, bring our family of families closer and contribute to building a positive bridge with the Corpus Christi community at large.

In the next month we will announce the date of the Food Handlers class that is required of all volunteers who prepare or serve food. The class will be held on a Sunday morning and take approximately 2 hours.

We are off and running and thank you for your anticipated participation in Food Fest.

Adult Hebrew Classes

We are happy to announce that we will be able to provide adult Hebrew classes starting again this Fall on Shabbat mornings after the High HolyDays.

We were all saddened to lose Ray Falk who had been teaching this class for many years.  We want to thank Rikki Schmitchel for stepping in to continue this important service for our congregation and look forward to many of you taking the opportunity to start or continue your studies in the Hebrew language.
